Pasta Polo on Urbanspoon

Pasta Polo

This Pasta Polo has been in the Coquitlam area since way back. I remember it being a pretty vibrant place. Well, we came here on a Monday night with the family. Thanks to my brother, he decided to treat us to dinner. But, it was like an empty restaurant during prime dinner time! There were only a handful of diners.

The Table

Everything was quite prompt. However, my mom did complain about the cups were not very clean. Read the rest of this entry »

I Love Sushi on Urbanspoon

I Love Sushi

When I first heard of “I Love Sushi”, I had always imagined it to be a cheap Sushi joint with a variety of rolls and a very large menu. Well, it seems like I was partly right. They do have a big menu, but not exactly your typical cheat Sushi joint. And it shows in their service.

Table Setup

This restaurant portrays a cheap Sushi joint also because they don’t setup your table. It’s almost like a self-serve. Read the rest of this entry »

Aqua Riva – Dine Out Edition

Since Dine Out Vancouver 2011 is around the corner, my next few posts will be on restaurants which I have went to at previous Dine Outs and restaurants who are participating in the Dine Out Vancouver event this year, which I have not yet reviewed. I believe this year is the 9th annual of Dine Out Vancouver. For those who haven’t heard of Dine Out Vancouver, it is an annual food event that gather hundreds of restaurants in the Lower Mainland to allow tens of thousands of foodies to experience the different types of cultured food at a portion of the normal price. It is a 3 course meal with 3 different price ranges: $18, $28, $38. However, the prices have gone up drastically in the last few years. It is no longer “cheap” to experience Dine Out, as it once was.

For the first of my dine out posts, I present to you – Aqua Riva. A very trendy restaurant right on the waters at Canada Place. It’s got quite a view of the waters, and across from it, the beautiful mountains of North Vancouver. And on a good day, you might be lucky to view the sunset without the wind in your face.

Aqua Riva on Urbanspoon

This time I went was actually a Dine Out event, just last year (2010). I was with my soon-to-be girlfriend that evening.

Bread and Butter

This was brought to us right after we ordered our food. There were two types of bread in there, I have no idea nor could I recall what they were, but I remember them being warm and toasty. Besides the butter, there was also a tomato type of sauce to complement the butter. This was not in the menu, but just complimentary from the appetizers.

Warm Baby Spinach Salad

This was a spinach salad topped with mushroom and bacon showered with maple vinaigrette. The salad was warm (like it states) and this dish was just perfect. Read the rest of this entry »

MY GREEK Taverna – Dinner Special

My Greek is absolutely one of THE BEST Greek food you will find in Vancouver. It’s located in the suburbs of Coquitlam on Brunette. They are usually packed at night, especially on the weekends. So, it’s a good idea to make reservations (604-525-5351) before going. If you are on Brunette, it’s rarely you will find a parking spot in the front of the restaurant. But, there’s plenty in the back entrance.

My girlfriend and I have visited this restaurant regularly for Greek food because we know there won’t be disappointment for the price. Their dinner special is $12.99 with 5 or 6 choices to choose from. I believe there’s chicken, lamb, and beef souvlaki, there’s a mixed souvlaki, and a roast lamb.

Lamb Souvlaki

This was my regular favourite, the size of the lamb is huge for the price and compared to other Greek restaurants. The dinner is served with rice, roasted potato, greek salad and tzatziki dip. Read the rest of this entry »

Chada Thai Coquitlam

Phew! It’s been quite a hectic week for me, with end of term papers and presentations. Anyhow, I had not stopped my food adventures. Last week my girlfriend and I re-visited a Thai restaurant in Coquitlam. However, I didn’t taken any photos this time round. But, I did have some photos that were never posted from a couple months ago. This is a relatively small restaurant with about 10-15 tables, but both times we went, it was never full. Both times, we went during their lunch hours. They only have a limited menu for lunch which starts from $10.99. (They rose the price by a $1 from the last time that we were there.)

Chada Thai Fine Cuisine on Urbanspoon

This is what we ordered:

Soup

Before we order or get our drinks, they give us this clear broth soup. I have no idea what it is, except it’s soup. I’m not exactly sure if it’s got MSG in it or not. IMO, it’s tastes rather on the salty side. In the soup, they put small bits of vermicelli and spinach. Read the rest of this entry »

Denny’s All Day Breakfast

This was a Tuesday evening, or more like a close-to-midnight dinner. I had a midterm that night and I didn’t feel like having any food before the exam because I wasn’t too hungry. So, I decided to eat after. Went with a few friends after, nothing was opened at 11pm at night in Coquitlam. So, we decided to hit up Denny’s.

There’s just something about eating breakfast at dinner that makes me feel good, especially a big and full breakfast with a fraction of the price. This is exactly it!

The Grand Slam

All for $5! Well, plus the HST. But, still you get two eggs (any style you want), 2 bacon strips, 2 sausages, and 2 pancakes! I think it’s a pretty good deal (well, for dinner anyways!) It’s available 7 days a week, just like it says. Not sure if this is a limited time offer, because it didn’t specify. Read the rest of this entry »

Aoyama Cafe – Dinner Edition

I’m out in Richmond once again with my girlfriend. This time we are visiting a Japanese cafe inside Aberdeen Centre called “Aoyama Cafe“. Half of the restaurant is actually a coffee shop and the other half is more like a restaurant.

Aoyama Cafe

The restaurant is located on the first level of Aberdeen Centre, beside the customer service station. (If you remember, Tropika is also inside this mall.) We went around dinner time (6pm) on a Saturday evening and we were seated almost instantly. There are plenty of smaller sized tables for 2-4 people per table inside the restaurant.

The food served at this restaurant is not your typical Japanese sushi restaurant. It has a very cafe feeling where they serve bread, soup and salad. In addition to that, they have rice, pasta, and casseroles. So, this is what we decided to order: (Sorry, didn’t bring my camera again. I had to use my BlackBerry.)

Barista's Choice Green Tea

This was their coffee/tea drink that came with the “Weekend Dinner Special” that we got this evening. The green tea was actually green and you can actually see green tea leaves on the bottom of the pot. It reminded me of the green tea bag from Kirkland. The texture of the tea was also green in colour like this. Read the rest of this entry »

Cactus Club Cafe – Dinner Edition

I’d like to thank @ORScion for their $50 gift-card as part of their weekly giveaways and for supplying us a pleasant evening @cactusclubcafe.

My girlfriend and I visited the Cactus Club Cafe in Coquitlam last night. This one is on the corner of Schoolhouse and Lougheed Hwy, super easy to find. We arrived around 7pm on the Friday night, we were very lucky that the wait did not exceed 20minutes. Note: They do not take reservations. And when you arrive, be sure to look for one of the ladies up front so, they could take down your name. Hint: I called in 30mins before, and asked them how long the wait would be. (Here’s the number: 604-777-0440)

We were seated after 15minutes… After our drinks came, we quickly ordered because we were starving. However, the waitress was not always there to check up on you. (Maybe it was Friday night.) Read the rest of this entry »

Tropika Aberdeen – Dinner Edition

For those who loves Thai & Malaysian food, you can get the best of two world here at Tropika Restaurant. They have 3 locations in the Lower Mainland, on Cambie; on Robson, but we tried this one at Aberdeen in Richmond.

I’ve been here several times, but I wasn’t blogging about food then. So, never had the chance to share what it’s like here. But, you can definitely tell I won’t visit a place more than once if it wasn’t good. So, this was one of those night where my girlfriend and I couldn’t figure out what to have for dinner and we started out categorizing the different types of cuisines out there. And we came to a consensus of having Thai food. We were in Richmond that day, so we decided to go give Tropika a visit. This restaurant is located inside Aberdeen Centre, which has probably one of the worst parking facilities. (Watch out for those “C-Lai” in their Mercedes and MDX’s. Hahaha.)

We didn’t make a reservation, so we ended up waiting for 30minutes on a Saturday evening. It’s a good idea to make reservation before you head out! (604-233-7002) Read the rest of this entry »

Sushi Shelter 101 – Dinner Edition

My girlfriend and I decided to visit this tiny gem in the Port of Coquitlam for dinner after a recommendation from my good friend, Micky. (Thanks for the great recommendation.) The restaurant was located in a strip mall behind Save-On Foods in Port Coquitlam. You will never find the restaurant if you don’t actually explore the back of the mall. It’s near the corner of Dominion Ave. and Ottawa St. When you walk in the restaurant, you will notice the restaurant has a very modern and fusion look. Before I go any further, YES, this is a Japanese Fusion restaurant.
