Hints:

  • Great for large groups
  • Sofa seatings
  • Taiwanese food

It’s been over a year since I’ve visited Tri-Pot and so trying to figure out where to have a light dinner, my girlfriend thought of this place.

Tri-Pot

They have raised their prices quite a bit since the last time we came. Most items are now $2.50+ and this is plus HST. We ordered chicken wings and chicken gizzard with Green bean noodle. We noticed the way they cooked it this time was very watery compared to the last time we went. However, the same great taste exists, served with Taiwanese pickle and green onion. However, since the cost has went up. It is likely we won’t be back as often. Read the rest of this entry »

Din Tai Fung on Urbanspoon

Din Tai Fung

I went to Din Tai Fung in Bellevue last month with the family after our weekend trip in the US. We didn’t know what to eat on our way back, and knowing that my parents are typical Chinese parents, they probably want something hot and something Chinese. So, I suggested Din Tai Fung. They insisted that they have tried this place before, but I was pretty sure they didn’t. And I was right.

Din Tai Fung

This Din Tai Fung is inside Lincoln Square, which is connected to Bellevue Square. We waited for roughly 15-20mins, as they don’t take reservations on the weekend.  I had thought they would be very busy with the large crowd standing at the door, but until I sat down to find out, there were plenty of empty tables inside.

Din Tai Fung Kitchen

This place is a total assembly line, I can’t even count how many are in the kitchen. And if you could see the scale on the table, everything is made to exact measurement, which I thought was pretty hardcore. Read the rest of this entry »

Alishan Restaurant 阿里山品味餐廳 on Urbanspoon

After being closed for awhile, Alishan finally opened its new location (still in the same mall, still the same outside entrance) on the side of Willingdon Ave. My girlfriend and I revisited this place a few weeks after its re-opening. And was it ever better than before.

AliShan

The new restaurant was twice as big as the old one with modern decors and a huge logo! They even have flags, you’ll never miss this place.

Inside the Restaurant

The restaurant’s seating is really packed. They want to fit as much people in it as possible. Even the front door has two tables instead of a bigger waiting area. Read the rest of this entry »

No. 1 Beef Noodle House on Urbanspoon

This Taiwanese place has been at the corner of Willingdon and Moscrop for quite some time. And I’ve been here quite a few times but never really did a review on this place. Mostly because every time I’m here I am more frustrated with parking and after fighting for a parking spot I am too starved to dig out my camera and enjoy my meal. But, it’s true. For those who have been here, you know exactly what I mean. The parking is horrendous, as its inside a corner strip mall with 3 other restaurants. So, you have been warned about parking.

Top Menu

My girlfriend and I dropped by for lunch on a (I think) Saturday afternoon. It was not very packed when we came in at around 1pm. And I was able to find parking this time! We decided to order everything from their “Top Rank” menu. Yes, we weren’t being very adventurous today. But at least we thought the food wouldn’t go wrong if it’s on the “Top Rank” list! Well, that’s what we thought.

First up is on their #1 of the Top Rank menu.

Salty Peppery Chicken Noodle

I know the name sounds misleading in English, but this is not Chicken Noodle! It’s… Read the rest of this entry »

Tri-Pot (鼎王滷味) on Urbanspoon

Tri-Pot

What a week! It’s been really busy for me lately with new projects, and I haven’t had the chance to post this week. Sorry for the delay, but despite how busy I am, I’d still like to post a new place every week to share with all you lovely supporters. I think sooner or later, my girlfriend will have to start posting on behalf of me.

Anyhow, today we are going to visit a rather unique place. It’s one-of-a-kind! I don’t think this restaurant is for everybody but especially for those who likes to have sauces. This is Vancouver’s First Taiwanese style low-carb snack restaurant. It’s strangely located inside another restaurant called “Zephyr in the Sky”, but we won’t be talking much about them today. I’ve been here several times, and I really like their food.

Food

There’s a list of 50 to 60 items on the menu and each item is only $2-$3. Beware though, it might seem cheap at first, but it does add up. The best thing about this place is that it doesn’t take HST (yet), like a lot of Richmond places, it is cash only here. Now, how this works is that you pick the ingredients, they will cook it in their secret recipe stock, which is served with their mouth watering sauces, taiwanese pickles and green onion. If you want, there is optional hot sauce and cilantro also available. Read the rest of this entry »

Ali Shan Taiwanese (Crystal Mall) on Urbanspoon

Ali Shan Restaurant

I’ve been here several times, but for some reason I haven’t made the effort to make a post about this place. Not that the food is not good, or the service is bad, it’s just that whenever I come by this place I don’t realize I haven’t wrote anything about it before. But, we have something to talk about this place now!

Moving Notice

As you can see from the top of the post, they are moving! Yes, they are moving to a new location just around the corner. It’s still attached to Crystal Mall, and it is only a couple steps from their current location, but they are “moving”. However, the notice doesn’t tell us when they are moving. Bubble Tea @ Fair Bee

Location: 222-5300 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC (Inside Lansdowne Centre)

Phone: (604) 270-8198

Fair Bee Coffee & Tea on Urbanspoon

We’re visiting a Bubble Tea place inside Lansdowne Centre today, it’s just a tiny store doing only take-out. So, what’s so special about this bubble tea place compared to all the others in Richmond? They offer SMALL PEARLS! They are miniature size pearls instead of the big ones you get from elsewhere. They have a variety of choices on the menu, sorry no pictures. One thing worth noting is they offer the drink the way you want it. What I mean by this is that some people prefer less ice or less sweet. So, you can get no ice/ less ice/ more ice without charge plus you can get 0%/20%/40%/50%…of sweetness in your drink!

Peach Green Tea with Small Pearls

Peach Green Tea with Small Pearls

It’s definitely something to try if you haven’t had small pearls. I won’t guarantee you will like it, but if you’re feeling adventurous then give it a try. There’s not a lot of places that I know in Vancouver that offers small pearls.

Check out their Early Bird Specials below! (from Jan 24 to Feb 24, 2011) before 11:55am.

Monday – Two 12oz Ginger, Longan Tea for $3.00 + tax.

Tuesday – Two 700ml Iced Passion Fruit Green Tea with Pearls for $4.00 + tax.

Wednesday – Two 16oz Hot Mocha for $4.00 + tax.

Thursday – Two 16oz Hot Hazelnut Latte for $4.00 + tax.

Ratings:

Since this isn’t a through review, I won’t be giving a personal rating.
