Rodney's Oyster House on Urbanspoon

Rodney’s Oyster House

My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at Rodney’s Oyster House this year. The reason we picked Rodney’s is because they had a variety from their Happy Hour menu. Their raw oysters are $1.50 per shuck. More expensive than most places, but the sweetness and size of the oysters made up for it.

Raw Oysters

The oysters were sweet and fresh. Presented nicely on a sheet of ice. Aside from lemon wedges and horseradish, Rodney’s offers a variety of sauces from not spicy to flaming hot.  Read the rest of this entry »

DD Mau on Urbanspoon

DD Mau

My girlfriend and I stopped by DD Mau for a bite before A-Lin’s concert at the Queen Elizabeth Centre. It was on my wishlist since its opening but just never made it to Yaletown. I don’t come down to Yaletown often and I have my reasons, 99% of Yaletown is paid parking, it’s far and not centralized.

Inside DD Mau

When we walked in, there was only one other couple dining at the establishment. It was pretty quiet on a Saturday evening, I could imagine because it wasn’t in the core of Yaletown. And Saturday night, I think people would have better options. It didn’t take us long to get our order.

Subs

Now I guess to give some sort of introduction to DD Mau, it specializes in “Banh Mi”, a Viet version of the sub. They also have pho noodle offerings besides the subs. Check out their menu online. Read the rest of this entry »

Provence Marinaside Restaurant on Urbanspoon

Provence Marinaside

Provence had been in my dictionary for awhile. However, it is until recent that I had visited this restaurant in Yaletown. It’s rather hidden and not really central to the heart of Yaletown. But in return, you get a pretty good view of the harbour (that is if you sat outside on the patio or if you have a window seat facing the waters).

Provence Marinaside

We arrived just before 2pm, it was a late brunch. My girlfriend and I were super starved. But it was good to find out we weren’t the only late lunchers in the restaurant.

Bread and Butter

We started out with some complimentary bread. Read the rest of this entry »

Hamilton Street Grill on Urbanspoon

My girlfriend and I have entered Yaletown for dinner one Sunday evening in December before a show. We decided to visit Hamilton Street Grill because I’ve heard their food is quite good and because we had an Entertainment coupon that gave us 2 for 1. It was an early dinner, we made a reservations before hand (just in case it was busy). When we entered the restaurant…

Hamilton Street Grill

We were surprised that there was only 2 other tables that were occupied. I guess no one really eats dinner at 5:30pm. It was rather quiet for a Street Grill, but I liked it, not having to scream across the table to converse. We were seated right away, but of all the tables that were available, we were seated at a corner at this small squared table with no leg-room (even my hand and arm was longer than the table).
