Boathouse on Urbanspoon

The Boathouse @ Port Moody

The Boathouse has always been one of my favourite places for brunch. Not only do they have a spectacular view but also because I love their Caesar salad. I was joined by my long-time buddy (@anothersamchan) and my girlfriend. It was a Sunday afternoon, surprisingly not a lot of people. However, food service was rather slow. Plus, there wasn’t any baked goods. Unlike last time!

Westcoast Seafood Pasta

The Westcoast Seafood pasta was a little disappointing, as I had more seafood last time. And the sauce was a bit too watery. Presentation on the pasta was a bit disappointing, let’s just say I expected more for a $20 pasta. The salad was good, I would have changed it to a Caesar but forgot to. Greens were mixed with mixed cheese and dried cranberries. Read the rest of this entry »

Fuji Sushi on Urbanspoon

Since the reopening of Fuji Sushi, I have been back to Fuji Sushi to give it a second try. And I have more than impressed how much they have improved their service since their reopening. Service has definitely been notably faster and more attentive. We were seated at a booth this time, and it certainly felt awkward sitting at a booth inside a Japanese restaurant. Especially awkward because I have sat at the same booths from the previous and previous restaurants.

Anyway I won’t go into too much details about Fuji, as I’ve explained it in my previous posts. On to the good stuff, the FOOD!!

Green salad

Miso Soup

The green salad and miso soup came with the dinner bento that we’ve ordered.

Sushi Bento Box

I am pretty impressed with the sushi bento everytime I come, you get a choice of teriyaki and a variety of nigiri’s, tempura, tuna roll and their special of the day – which was a deep fried salmon ball thing today. Ingredients are all served very fresh.  Read the rest of this entry »

Fuji Sushi on Urbanspoon

Fuji Sushi

Well, this post came a bit late due to my lack of Internet connection the week I’ve been off to The Big Apple. I’m well back-logged in my posts, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up in the next few weeks.

If you haven’t heard or been already, the new Fuji Sushi has opened in Port Moody, taking over what used to be the old Carefree restaurant. This place was full of old memories, I still remember eating afternoon tea here with @anothersamchan when we got off school. The changes to the restaurant included kneeling tables and a sushi bar. Everything else was pretty much the same, some of the booths are still where it used to be.

My girlfriend and I went the second week that it re-opened, and this is my review of the re-opening of the new Fuji Sushi.

The Sushi Bar

Fuji Sushi

The table

Our table was already set when we arrived, because we got a seat at the sushi bar. I made a same day reservation earlier and got our seats no problem. However, that was only the beginning of the night. The menus were pretty much the same, except for the prices, we noticed a slight increase of some of the prices on the menu since their re-opening. We didn’t get a menu till after 5 minutes since we sat down. Aside, no tea was served.

Ika Sugatayaki

Our first dish didn’t arrive till 30 minutes since we ordered. It was that slow, and when this arrived at our table, it was already cold. The Ika Sugatayaki is a baked squid in their special sauce. The flavours were good, however, my only complaint was that it was cold. Read the rest of this entry »

Carefree Family Restaurant

Carefree Family Restaurant on Urbanspoon

So, this place has been opened as far as I know it. However, there have been new owners constantly. But for some reason, they decided to keep the English name the same. I guess they really like the name or just feeling very attached. Anyhow, I like the first gen of this restaurant, way back in high school, when me and @anothersamchan would come here almost everyday for snack after school. It was either that or the McDonalds next to it. But clearly, the fried chicken that used to be here was the winner.

Carefree Family Restaurant

Anyhow, back to the current restaurant. Nothing has really changed except for some minor renovations. My girlfriend and I are back here for the second time, after I was introduced to the “fish soup noodle combo” here by my girlfriend’s parents.

Fish Soup Noodle Combo

I have got to say, it’s pretty good. The best thing about it is no MSG, which means the soup is natural flavours. The price isn’t too bad, which includes a hot drink. My only complaint about their drinks is that it’s too watered down, which is not a surprise at most Chinese restaurants because they use more water and less drink mix or milk or whatever it is they use. Rehanah's Roti on Urbanspoon

Rehanah's Roti

It never occurred to me that there was this place in Port Moody until I visited Charlie’s cafe across the street months back. (Actually, my girlfriend noticed it. Talk about being a wrap enthusiast.) Rehanah’s is certainly one of these places. I called in ahead of time on a Saturday afternoon to make sure they were still open, and certainly they were. In fact, they were quite busy because they were doing a cater that afternoon.

Rehanah's Roti

We entered the tiny restaurant with only 4 or so tables, this is one of those restaurants you either take-out or grabbing a quick bite. Even though, it’s a wrap or “Roti” place. It’s definitely not cheap. Each wrap was averagely $10. Yes, $10 for a wrap is quite expensive in my opinion. We’ll see if it’s worth the $10+. There are no servers in the front of the house, when they hear the door ring, they sneak out from the back. We ordered quickly and left because the ambiance wasn’t altogether too pleasant. It was  an old building and everything was old. The tables weren’t wiped down after the previous table had left. So, we just decided to take it to go. Read the rest of this entry »

Boathouse (Port Moody) on Urbanspoon

The Boathouse

There’s many special things with Boathouse. It’s usually located side by side with the waters, you have a gorgeous view on a nice day. The atmosphere is very serene and you get the feeling that you’re in another part of town. Well, at least this is what I feel when I’m down here at The Boathouse in Port Moody.

The View

The view today wasn’t too bad. It’s still “winter”, so it’s still quite gloomy out. You can see that the trees are still bare naked. And today’s not one of those sunny days. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times, but it was our first for brunch! We were here on a Saturday just passed noon, and it was still quiet. Most of the windows seats were taken, but being the smart I am, I always make reservations ahead of time if it’s available. There’s no guarantees, but having a reservations is better than having no reservations. I requested to have a windows seat, and I got one.

Fresh Flowers

One thing about dining here is that you’re likely to spend more than your average lunch, but they do put more effort on ambiance and surroundings. Like this flower, it’s real! And they have one at every table, so it’s probably the reason why you’re paying a buck or two more. Read the rest of this entry »
