Haan is a new Korean BBQ restaurant near Coquitlam Centre. It used to be Fu Lin Hot Pot but has now transformed into a Korean barbecue restaurant. Unlike other Korean restaurants in the area, Haan focuses on BBQ using quality meats. This is not your typical All-You-Can-Eat place. In fact, they only offer A-la-carte and like most Korean BBQ restaurants, it requires you to order a minimum of 2 BBQ orders. However, you could mix and match items.

Haan Korean BBQ

A group of 9 came to try this place on a Sunday night and it was packed! I made a reservation for 7:30pm and didn’t get our table till after 8pm. Be warned, don’t come with a group more than 6, as their tables were not meant for larger groups.

Edison Retro Bulbs

I have this thing for lighting. Good lighting is hard to come by. These Edison retro light bulbs on the walls added that special touch to the ambiance of the place. Absolutely loved it!

Electric Grill

All of their grills are electric and looked new (being only opened for a few weeks).

Seafood Pancake

My friend “Volt” needs to try Seafood Pancake at every Korean restaurant. Hence, we ordered it. (Sorry, it had to be cut up because we were sharing between 2 tables). The pancake was mediocre. There just wasn’t enough seafood in it. The vegetables and batter were evenly proportioned.

Sauces for BBQ

Most of the meats did not require marinated as they are really fresh. These dipping sauces will give the meats some flavour more or less. “Big guy” particularly likes the one on the right, which is a sesame-like sauce. The left is a more Korean BBQ sauce. I concur, liked the sesame sauce more.

Marinated Pork Rib

Their barbecue meats are fairly priced (~$12-30) and ranges from different areas of pork & beef. The marinated pork rib was recommended by the restaurant.

Pork Belly

Need I say more?

Marinated Beef Rib side meat

This was another recommendation. One of my bro’s favourite. Well worth the price!

Top Grade Beef Rib

The Top Grade Beef Rib is their most expensive type of meat (@$30). You can see how marbled the meats are, premium quality.

The whole meal

The BBQ meal came with rice, banchan (appetizers), and vegetables. But they didn’t bring these until we asked for them. I didn’t particularly like the banchan’s here. The kimchi was really spicy to some, but for me it was more salty than spicy.

Beef Rib in hot pot

This was a wow-ers! Not much of a hot pot, more of a hot plate. Served with beef ribs, Japanese pumpkin, and rice cakes. Quite delicious.

Overall, I was pleased with the quality of meats they have here. Putting a combo would be nice but in this way, people get to choose what they want to eat. The food quality and ambiance is probably what will attract me to coming back. The service was a good experience overall, however, they do need to work on their turnover times and really hire more staff. Our waitress was literally running back and forth non-stop to take our requests. Value wise, it’s not cheap to eat here. A group of 6 would probably be ideal, so you could share items. I’m happy there’s a Korean BBQ option near the Coquitlam Centre area.
