It was my very first time being at Cafe de L’Orangerie despite that this has been on my wish list for awhile. The cafe is not your normal cafe with coffee and donuts, but this is a Japanese style cafe with a twist. It specializes in pasta, curry, hamburger steak, cutlets and desserts. And of course, it does the mochas and lattes too.
My fiancée and I were in the area, so we stopped by for lunch. It’s on a fairly quiet street. Hence, I took directions from the GPS to lead me here. It was around 1PM on a Sunday afternoon and the cafe was quite full. However, we managed to get a table almost right away.
My fiancée got a hamburger steak served with Japanese curry, rice and salad. The curry was think and tasty, it was a bit hot and not exactly classified as mild. It had a kick in it. The hamburger steak was mediocre, it fell apart easily (probably because of too much filling). I personally didn’t find the hamburger steak that great despite almost all the tables ordered one.
I ordered the pasta, which had squid, mushroom, asparagus in a roe cream sauce topped with seaweed. The pasta was good. I loved the creaminess and the masago (fish roe) mixture. However, I wished there were more squid in the pasta.
We didn’t try the desserts. But I’ve read from other blog posts that this is what keeps people coming back. Will definitely try it another time. Overall, I thought service at Cafe de L’Orangerie was attentive. Food was average.
