It’s been awhile since I’ve updated here. I’ve always been hoping to update more regularly but I’ve been too busy lately. If you want to stay up to date on my latest eats, follow me on my Facebook page or follow me on Instagram.
My girlfriend and I discovered a new Pho in the Austin Heights area in Coquitlam. This place used to be Austin Delicatessen, which focused on European goods and subs. But I had never visited the place. So it was indeed my first time being here, it seems like the place was newly renovated including new furnitures.
Since I couldn’t find parking in the front, I had to walk through the kitchen to get to the back door and rear parking. I was able to grab a shot of the chicken stock that they boil for hours! It’s amazing to see real stock. Most Pho places would leave me thirsty because of MSG. But this place was surprisingly good, you can tell that the broth was made from the real stuff and the broth tasted sweet.
I had the small Pho Holiday special which included a bit of everything – rare beef, brisket, fatty brisket, tendon, tripe and beef ball. The pho noodles were smooth and the right amount of chewiness. I wish there was a whole beef ball, but I had maybe a quarter. The meats were a great variety and fresh. The best was thing was the broth IMO. It was sweet to taste. The small size was decent and I was full, sometimes I wouldn’t be full from just ordering a small bowl.
We shared two orders of spring rolls. It was crispy on the out and soft on the inside. The fish sauce was light and sweet, complimented the spring roll very well. I would order this again.
My girlfriend had a lemongrass chicken with rice and double fried eggs. She mentioned the chicken was lightly seasoned or too lightly seasoned and didn’t have enough lemongrass. The rice was a little hard, but our waitress mentioned that the rice was harder and would be glad to swap it for us if needed. The amount of chicken was quite generous.
Since it was their grand opening, we got a 15% discount. And they are currently doing a 15% discount till the end of October. They have about a dozen small tables but could be combined to make a table for a large group. This seems to be a family business and there were only 2 ladies running the place. I think it’s great to have another authentic Pho place in the area. So be sure to check it out, since we’re in the comfort food season. Having a hot bowl of Pho could just really warm up that cool day.
