I don’t remember where I’ve stumbled upon Kisoji but I did. As a foodie, sometimes you somehow find out things others don’t (even if it’s on the edge of the earth). Kisoji is one of those rare finds, located on the edge of Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam. When my girlfriend came here months ago, it was very quiet. I’m guessing because it was a Sunday night or it was just the location. There are at least 3 other Japanese restaurants within 1 km of proximity.
This was on their Seasonal Menu and was highly recommended by our waitress. The pot was huge for 2 people. It came boiling with thinly sliced beef, napa cabbage, tofu, enoki, shiitake, king oyster mushrooms, green bean noodles, scallion in a sweet soy sauce soup base. The hot pot was beyond flavourful with loads of ingredients! A really good deal for just $14.
In addition, we ordered some sushi nigiri’s. From bottom left and around, we have hotate, ikura, tamago, ika (custom order), aburi toro, aburi saba, aburi sake (salmon), and amaebi. Presentation was phenomenal. The aburi’s could’ve been better if it was lightly seared instead of heavily seared. Overall, I liked it.
The bill came to just under $40, which I thought was a pretty decent meal. My only problem was that it’s an extra drive to get sushi when I have many sushi choices close to home. The service was good from start to finish, I couldn’t speak for if there was more people dining. But since we were close to the only ones in the restaurant, they really had no others to serve besides us.
