On the Remembrance weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to re-visit Catch 122 for brunch. We came for dine out once and was quite please with their dinner. So we decided to come and try their brunch after a recommendation from my friend (J.). It was packed when we showed up around 1pm. I could only imagine weekends being the same. Especially for those who wake up late after a late Friday night. I don’t believe they take reservations for brunch. It’s first-come-first-serve. We got a seat after 10 minutes.
We got a Macchiato to share. For those who have gotten used to the Starbucks Macchiato, this is completely different. The caffeine level just went way up. Since both my girlfriend and I are non-coffee drinkers, we needed extra milk desperately.
My girlfriend had the Duck Prosciutto Eggs Benny. A house-cured Yarrow Meadows duck breast prosciutto, poached eggs on an English muffin, hollandaise sauce and Yukon nugget potato hash. The hash was a little dry and didn’t have enough seasoning IMO. And my girlfriend thought the hollandaise was a bit too rich in taste.
I had “The Catch 122”. Poached eggs, house-smoked and cured wild salmon with dill creme fraîche, arugula in a croissant served with Yukon nugget potato hash. A very interesting combination. I like croissants and maybe I might be a slight bias but this was a pretty good combo. The eggs were poached well and salmon was good.
I have a love-hate relationship with going for brunch. Mainly because they are all easy items that could be made at home. But there are days that you just don’t feel like cooking in the morning and that’s when I love going on brunches. The price point at Catch isn’t bad for brunch. It’s priced very fairly and almost everyone orders a caffeine of some sort. I guess they really do a good job at it. The ambiance is great because it seems like you are surrounded by people who just woke up too. Other than that the servers are friendly.
