My girlfriend and I are always on the look for something new to try. And since we are in Richmond and we couldn’t decide what to have for dinner, I remembered that my parents came here a few weeks ago. So I decided to try it out.
We arrived around prime dinner time (7pm) and the place was pretty full. But not packed. We didn’t make a reservation but were able to be seated moments we’ve entered the restaurant.
We ordered 2 dishes and it came with both rice, soup and dessert.
Soup of the day was a Chinese double-boiled soup with Winter melon and pork bones.
We didn’t realize but our second dish was also a chicken dish. For some reason, we never really planned for things like this to happen. But it always does for some reason. The dish was a bit oily in my opinion. Otherwise it would have been an enjoyable dish.
A very traditional Chinese dish. The dish is salted, so even without the ginger and onion dip it would have been suffice. The chicken was well presented. Overall, not a bad dish. I’m not sure how else they would be called “specialty chicken” if the chicken wasn’t good. However, there really wasn’t anything special about the chicken that I couldn’t get at other similar restaurants.
In Chinese, we call this “Tong Sui”. It’s a Coconut milk Tapioca Tong Sui. It was sweet and watery, not nearly close to a good “Tong Sui”.
Overall, the dishes were quite average and didn’t have much of a retention. The bill came to $28 after tax before tips. For that price, there are much better selections in the lower mainland. The service was mediocre and ambiance felt very much like you are in a Hong Kong cafe (loud and chatty).
