So this is one of those long overdue posts which I have forgotten to post due to x-number of reasons. As for Insadong, it’s been in the Coquitlam area for quite a long time and has been a favourite for many of those who wants Korean BBQ. Insadong is a pretty large restaurant on the corner of Lougheed Hwy and North Road. It cannot be missed. Since the restaurant is so big, they have bells at everyday table (much like the ones on airplanes). So that servers could be notified.
The Banchan here came with 5 small plates and are refillable to your likings.
Since it was just the two of us, we ordered only 2 sorts of meats because that was the minimum order in order for self BBQ. It was a decent portion for two, but I felt that we had way too much meat afterwards. The two meats came with some vegetables like mushrooms and onions on the side. The meats were well-seasoned and tender.
While it was fun to cook our own dinner, but the fun only lasted until your arms get sore from flipping the ingredients.
In addition, we ordered a bibimbap. Presentation was very nice with loads of veggies. But the bowl wasn’t extremely hot which made the stone pot rice lukewarm at best.
Overall, I thought the dishes were quite average. It really didn’t take much skill to cook the food as it’s self-cooked BBQ. The marinated food was well-seasoned and food on average tasted alright. The service was rather slow though it was not extremely busy when we went on a week night. Despite having the bell, we had to push it a few times before a waiter showed up. Despite the BBQ and Hot Pot’s that go on, the restaurant was well-ventilated. I knew because I did not smell like BBQ when coming out.
Where do you think is the best Korean BBQ restaurant in town? Let me know in the comments section below.
