Onyx is a steakhouse and lounge inside the Suter Brook village in Port Moody. I had made an Opentable reservations earlier the same day. The restaurant wasn’t extremely busy but it did have a big party upstairs. The upper level of the restaurant is able to hold private functions (not sure if there’s a cost). We were greeted at the door and was promptly seated.
The Onyx Tuna Tacos is quite popular here. The starter came with 3 pieces of crisp tacos topped with Togi seared albacore tuna, jicama carrot mango salad, popadoms, and chilli sesame lime dressing. It was an interesting starter. The tuna was fresh and mixed very well with the crunchiness and the unique flavours of the popadoms.
My girlfriend got the 7oz. Top Sirloin from the Conventional Entrees menu. Though it was not her first choice, the dish was made well in a peppercorn sauce. The Top Sirloin was made medium-well and served with cut up portobello mushroom and mashed potatoes. We will have to come back and try their Prime Rib another day because the huge party took it all. (Note: You can call in and order your prime rib of choice beforehand.)
I had the chicken breast which was a chicken breast stuffed with roasted red peppers & garlic, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, basil with a chicken reduction with zucchini and mashed on the side. The chicken breast was done perfectly and very moist. Every bite was full of flavours.
Thanks to my birthday, I had a $20 coupon which pretty much covered the appetizers. The price range is pretty standard with other chains like “The Keg” steakhouse. The portions, however, are smaller. The atmosphere was warm and servers are attentive.
