Surely enough, Cattle Cafe has expanded its locations across Kingsway. This one is located on the corner of Kingsway and Edmonds. I don’t recall what used to be here, but looking just from the outside, it looks like a really old house. However, the ambiance was vibrant and warm on the inside. It was Sunday afternoon that my girlfriend and I decided to come here, it was packed. But didn’t take long to get our table for 2.

We both ordered hot Horlicks with our lunch. For those who have not had Horlicks, it’s a malted drink. However, this was a little watered down. It seems like they had cheaped out on the evaporated milk.

Cattle is pretty well known for their soup noodles, which are widely available at most Hong Kong style cafes now. You get to pick your own soup, your 2 choices of ingredients, and a choice of noodles. The possibilities are endless. There are some items on the menu that will require extra $. And if you want more than the 2 ingredients, you could also add them by paying more. In our case, we ordered their original fish soup with beef tendon and sausage with clear vermicelli. In my opinion, the soup was lacking a little flavour. But they rave themselves for not having a single drop of MSG.

This was mountainous. We didn’t know it would be so big! But it topped with deep fried pork chop, tomatoes and fried rice in a tomato sauce. It was pretty good. The pork chop was very tender and had no fat or bone in it whatsoever. Good choice!

The bill came to just over $20 for the two. A pretty reasonable priced lunch. The downside is that this place is cash only. You heard that right, a place outside Richmond that is Cash Only. Aside from that, prepare to wait for parking. There is very limited spaces when it gets busy.
