Provence had been in my dictionary for awhile. However, it is until recent that I had visited this restaurant in Yaletown. It’s rather hidden and not really central to the heart of Yaletown. But in return, you get a pretty good view of the harbour (that is if you sat outside on the patio or if you have a window seat facing the waters).
We arrived just before 2pm, it was a late brunch. My girlfriend and I were super starved. But it was good to find out we weren’t the only late lunchers in the restaurant.
We started out with some complimentary bread.
I was going to go for the Coque Monsieur Benny, but for the same price my girlfriend convinced me to get the smoked salmon Benny. The Benedicts here are all very different, in so that they don’t serve it on an English muffin. But depending on your choice of Benedicts’, they have a wide selection of choices from waffles, foccacia, to croissants. Mine was on a corn pancake! The smoked salmon were pretty good, not too fishy. I think they could have improved on the presentation of the fruit! But without peeling off the outside, I can tell they do serve fresh fruits here.
The egg yolk is worth a mention! It’s like the colour of a perfect sunset. It’s dark orange!
My girlfriend’s dish came with a salad on the side. The salad was evenly dressed.
My girlfriend tried their Cannelloni stuffed with beef. The sauce was tasty and tomato-y. However, it was very watery. The sauce could have been thicker, I would not even consider it as a tomato paste. The taste is all there.
The bill came to under $32 excluding tips. The price of brunch here is fairly priced. However with the price I’m paying, there are places with better food and view than Provence. The service was a tad slow (maybe I was just hungry). The food was decent. The ambiance wasn’t too bad, but it almost felt like I was sitting in an Olive Garden which I expected a little more. Other than that, this place is worth a try. And afterwards, you can take a stroll on the route along the waters. It’s a decent location for a romantic dinner.
