I visited Venice Garden about a month ago for dinner. You can visit my last review here. This time we visited for lunch before watching Bard on the Beach on a sunny Saturday afternoon. This is probably one of a few places that you don’t have to wait for a spot on a Saturday afternoon. However, parking is horrendous with T&T and other shops in the same mall.
We decided to get a congee and a noodle to share. I’m not exactly sure what the difference if I ordered a Canadian style minced beef congee, but I’m pretty sure they use the same beef. Anyhow, I know how to cook my minced beef congee. I still think they haven’t really “minced” their beef. It was more like fine chopped beef. However, the congee was still very good.
We had to send this one back to the kitchen after taking a bite. The beef brisket were excellent, however the noodles were not very good. They had too much “gan shui” in it. “Gan shui” is a solution of sodium carbonate. They are in the noodles, but if they use the same water to cook the noodles, over time it will taste really nasty, barely edible. And this is exactly the case. My girlfriend talked to the manager to get it replaced, which I was quite surprise they will let you in an Asian place like this.
While we waited to decide which noodles to change to, we also got a steamed dried shrimp & green onion rice roll. It was quite soft, tender, and hot! It’s a must try.
We decided to opt for a fried vermicelli with shrimp and pork as a replacement for the beef brisket noodles. We had this at Deer Garden in Coquitlam and it was heaven. We were more or less disappointed because Deer Garden’s were better. I think it lacks flavour compared to the one I had at Deer Garden.
That’s all for now! Have a great weekend. I’m going to be bringing my food on in Victoria, BC this weekend. We will see how Victoria’s food is compared to Vancouver! Until next time.
