This was my second time visiting Austin Fish & Chips. Dinner wasn’t planned to be here but due to a surprise, we ended up having Fish & Chips for dinner. I bet @anothersamchan was happy, after all he picked the place. We went on a weekday, so the place wasn’t crowded at all. And it wasn’t on a Tuesday, Wednesday or a Sunday. So, it was okay. They have all-you-can-eat on these days.
One thing I should note is that this place is uber kids friendly. The server brought paper and crayons immediately for the kids at the table. I guess there is special kids treatment.
We ordered the “Family for 4” dinner special, which the four of us who shared saved about a quarter each. Better than nothing. The dinner for 4 included:
A large dish of coleslaw between the 4. It was mixed very well, not too watery.
The dinner rolls were hot and toasty. I wish they would have made fresh cream butter though. It would have been the perfect combination.
Of course a mountainous of fries. The fries were alright, they were a bit dry, which after having a few I was already felt like I need another glass of water.
And finally 2 pieces of cod each. I could feel the heat of the fish when it was brought to the table. It was light and crispy, I was already quite full after having a piece.
For a fish & chips place, I would come here for the food if more than anything. For ambiance, I have one word for you, old! But the food is definitely worth a try. May I suggest the fried chicken, it’s freshly battered and deep fried. Where do you think is the best place for fish & chips? Let me know in the comments section below.
